Berry and Fleataroo were the best. I think that the others looked like they were done by a very young kid. Fleataroo and Berry though, those to looked really good. If you can make those, I think that you are pretty good.

How do you rewind film with the Nikon FM10?
I've never used that camera, but most all of the mechanical cameras I've used work in pretty much the same way.
In general, you'll need to locate a small button on the bottom of the camera. Push it in. Then, unfold the rewind crank on top of the camera, and crank it clockwise.
If you listen carefully, you'll hear when the film snaps loose from the takeup spool. At this point, it's safe to open the back of the camera.

I need to know the artist of this piece of work?
i have no image but i can describe it
it is 3D artwork, 4 ice cream lollies, like fruit splits, but they are not painted, just covered in fabric.
One is in tiger stripes, the one below is like green leopard prints, the other is yellow with red/orangey colour spots and the last one is pinky white from teh picture i'm looking at, with black splodges.
Can anyone help me find out who made these, all the help is appreciated.

How can I start being a Director of Photography?
I hold a degree in film and video. I have shot events(weddings, baptisms, birthdays,) in HDV and super 8 but I want to work in a feature with a director. Since I have never shot a movie before (only in college) how can I persuade a director to work wtih me?

They are responsible for loading the film and running equipment errands for the 1st camera assistant. Then you will eventually move up to the 1st camera assistant position. While doing this it's important to watch and learn, while working on your own reel and establish network contacts. These contacts will eventually hire you for smaller jobs (commercials, PSA's, music videos, shorts, etc.) Or the DP will move to director and hire you to shoot their film.

GIMP photo editing HELP!!?
I have gimp but have no clue how to use it. I am mainly looking for help removing blemishes and fat ;) But would also like to know how to put to faces on one picture in a haze/bubble type thing. Can anyone help me?

I'll give you an honest crtitique.
From a technical standpoint, they're good, especially the first one. It's hard to get a good picture in those conditions. You set it up right though, in a dark room so that the flame is correctly exposed, without overexposing the rest of the picture. Did you use a timed exposure? If I were taking that picture, my guess would be maybe F8 for 3 seconds. I've taken pictures like that with 35mm film, but not digital because the only digital camera I have is just a cheap point and shoot camera.
And also that first picture reminds me of how I feel everytime I go to the gas station to fill up my car!
The picture of the figure or statue is a little overexposed. The colors are a little washed out and there is too much glare on the highlights. If possible, when you take pictures outside, try to do it either early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when the sun is lower. If the sun is directly overhead, the light is too harsh and colors get washed out. So the worst time of day to take pictures outside is from about 12:00 - 2:00 pm. The best time is around maybe 8 AM - 10:30 AM, and then in the evening from about maybe 4:30 - 7:30 PM (in the spring or summer). If you really need to, you can get pictures earlier in the day, but step your exposures down. In fact, sometimes it's better to underexpose the picture a little bit because it will make colors brighter.
The other pictures with the smoke are pretty cool, and interesting from a technical standpoint, but unfortunately just don't make interesting subjects.
By the way, you should upload your pictures to Photobucket, they give you a huge file size limit and it's free.

Do what? GIMP has most features you might want, but once you have the picture, what do you want to do next?
Ah, what you want is to cut out the infant from an image, and overlay that on your first (hand) image. Then you'll want to try dither vs blur vs hand alter the outline of the infant, to merge the two pictures together.
Before you start that, make sure that the brightness levels match, and the direction of the light matches. You'll also need to add shadowing.

Designing Shirts?
Okay so I'm thinking about designing shirts and entering them into some of shirt.woot's derbys and am wanting some information. I have some ideas, I just don't know how to put them into the computer.
First- Is there a special program that I should use to make shirt designs? Preferably free? Is it just photoshop?
The sirts that I see on shirt.woot are all computerized, not a photo of a shirt, do I have to make the outline of the shirt myself or is there some kind of tempilate to use?
Here's an example of the shirt.woot shirts: (see how it has the little shirt in the corner, and then the actual design in the background? Do you use a template for the shirt?)

I checked the site.. and it sucks.. photo shop or illustrator would be good programs to use if not the best. They should give you all the info about sizing and DPI resolution and such along with the template, i would think. If you really interesting in designing shirts for fun or money you should try out THREADLESS.COM its really great and they give you detail information on how to submit your designs... Good luck

There is photoshop and adobe illustrator, there are probably free design programs out there. The shirt backgrounds should be templates, but some people like to do it the hard way and draw it out.
If you want, you can draw your design on a piece of paper then scan it ( with a super quality scanner) and then download it to your computer, touch it up, then submit it.

Can an experience banner maker make me a banner? I'd like the banners dimensions to be:
960 px x 147 px.
I'd like the background to have a reddish orange (abstract with a light touch of flames) color. I'd also like a picture of the Digimon logo on the left. Then, in the remaining space to the right, it'd be nice to have pictures of Agumon, Greymon, Metal Greymon, and WarGreymon in that order.
Since 147 px is pretty thin (width-wise), just try and fit in their heads, and maybe a bit of their bodies.

I never understood why painters wear white. Since they wear white all the paint shows up on their clothes. It doesn't make any sense.

Reply:PRACTICE. When I was in high school, I took a beginning drawing class and I practiced all the time. Well, it wasn't really practice since I liked it so much, but I just spent A LOT of time drawing.
It's often easier for a lot of people to copy images, rather than real-life people/objects. I bought two or three drawing books--nothing too fancy--that had sketches and pictures, and just spent time copying those.
You won't really notice that you're getting better, but now that I haven't been drawing for the past four or five years, I'm an "okay" drawer, but not nearly as good as I used to be.
I'd suggest starting with faces/bodies, etc (they can be SO much harder than they seem), then work on anime after you get the basics taken care of.

I know this sounds terrible, but a good way to draw people is to practice on nude drawings. I suggest Playboy and Playgirl because their pictures are tasteful and cheaper than taking a class with a nude model. I suggest also drawing alot of still life of plants, flowers and landscapes. draw cars and airplanes too. The point is to have fun and doing what you love to do is great. I have a great instructor who allows me to doodle in class because it keeps the fingers in practice and I concentrate better. maybe you can start a comic series and let your imagination go wild and actually make a profit.

It would never look natural because the photo is too small and of too low quality. It is so dark that to make the green in the eyes visible at all is going to look totally goofy. Supply a large, high quality photo, and you will get some high quality results.
Someone here may do it, but I will not because I know how terrible it will look tying to do what you want on this poor quality photo.

Now as for the montage, yes, that is done with an editing program. Most any decent program will do that. Photoshop or GIMP are two that certainly would. You would just create a blank "canvas" of a certain size, and drag and drop all your photos into it. You would have to size your individual photos so as not to be too large to fit in your new canvas. A very basic, simple procedure actually.

This picture definitely looks Alaskan. Very Inupiat looking. I was visualizing the inspiration of the artist and what the person may have been. Beautiful painting. There is a Stephan's Gallery here in Anchorage and I bet they can tell you more. I am making a copy just out of curiosity because I work near Stephan's Art Gallery where they know Alaskan art. I too am an art collector. This is a real look of spring breakup of winter out here. I am very excited for you.

The style of fishing boat is wrong for Alaska and I have seen sunset paintings like that of Crete.
(It could be South American, or Italian, or...)
The white mountain is a distinctive feature. There should not be many of those near water with white buildings.
I suspect the white daubs on the water represent sails.
The fishing boat shown is a sailing type of boat with its mast dropped.
I have no idea who the painter might have been.
I will look around a bit later and see if anything pops up.

Me and my friends are considering doing an Indiana Jones movie, but we haven't really come up with an idea on how to create a giant boulder in a cheap and easy way. I was considering buying a giant beach ball and covering it with paper mache, but the prices ranged too high. Anyone have ideas as to what we can do?

Chicken wire and papier mache! When I was in high school, we had a tradition of making parade floats for our homecoming game. One year, we made a 6-foot tall dragon's head out of chicken wire, then covered it with papier mache and painted it. It was sooo amazing. (Another year, we made a 6-foot astronaut, which was also pretty damn cool).

Then again, if you get hit with a giant, hollow ball of chicken wire, it'd probably hurt, lol.
I think your best bet is going to be a beach ball or something equally large. Keep in mind, though, that it'll probably take a week before it's ready. You'll have to put on the papier in stages and wait for it to dry i between. PLUS painting it.
I'll probably look really cool when you're done, though, so if you're dedicated I'd say go for it!

Whether it is obvious or not, the boulder in the movie was braced inside and was supported from in back - it wasn't just let go - by using a close up camera angle an axle through the middle and yoke behind would keep it from destroying hundreds of thousands of dollars in equipment and a couple of million in actors. Also, optical processing would eliminate accidental views of the hardware. It was probably made of fiberglass.
Instead of copying, use your imagination and put something on skids or wheels that can be pushed/moved by someone inside/behind. Think of the mass of a loaded refrigerator (pushed empty) or a vehicle rolling out of control (but controlled for safety)

i think his work was very naive. i'm no art expert but i know that copying a cambell's soup can isn't art. or doing rich people's portraits. why not homeless people's portraits or do something different. i give andy one thing he was damn good at marketing himself.now a days i think its not about what you can do but who you know. its sad because i think i am fairly talented and i hope to make it as a artist oned day. maybe even go to art college

After editing in Corel Paintshop Pro Photo X2 why can't I open my pictures without using corel?
After i edit the pictures and put them in a folder I burn them to a cd. But if I put the cd in another computer without the corel program in it the pictures won't open up. why?? it won't even open at the walgreen's kiosk.
Is there anyway to open them without using corel at all? Even in my computer?? It's extremely aggravating. Please help me out! Thanks

It's probably because if you saved the file in Corel, it becomes a Corel file, thus you're not able to open it without Corel.

Well, if only the cameraman is in the shot, it is called a self-portrait. This is done, as you know, using the self-timer on the camera.
Usually they don't "sneak" into the shot, but plan to be there. If however they are trying for a "cameo" within their images, they can use reflections within the frame or just jump into the shot.

Do I need to seal a watercolor painting?
I've painted a few pictures with watercolors,and one with additional chalk(?) pastels also,and I'd like to sell these pictures some day,but I was wondering if I should seal them with..something.

go to your local art supply store and ask for a spray sealant for watercolours and pastels that will not change the colour of the image. but be careful. ask for a demonstration. we once had a sealant that supposedly went over pencil, charcoal etc without altering the surface and it left white chemical deposits on the drawing; moreover the manufacturer would not do anything to help. so i don't have a company name right now.

Local skaters Kalamazoo MI?
I'm putting out an audition for skaters in the Kalamazoo area, who would be possible actors for a movie I'm making about a gang of skaters. You don't really have to be a skater, so long as you can ride a skateboard. It's non profit, so you wouldn't be paid. It'll be a ton of fun to make, so I'm looking forward to some volunteers.

For example, a picture of an umbrella, where the entire background is b%26amp;w but the umbrella itself is bright red. I know apparently you can do this on the camera itself, but I don't have that kind.

you can try photobucket.... it wil let you crop a portion of it and desaturatet he colour out of the rest
your best bet is starting with a full color pic cause if you go black and white photobuckte doesnt have a hue saturation mode just a paint bucket and that will make a real photo look "off"

As is true of many procedures in Photoshop, there are several ways of doing selective color. This is a quick and easy method.
First open your photo in PS of course.
Then go to Layer - Duplicate Layer
Click OK
Then go to Image - Adjustments - Hue / Saturation
Drag the Saturation slider all the way to the left to make the photo black and white.
Click OK
Then get the ERASER tool from the tool box on the left side of the screen. It is usually the next tool under the clone stamp tool. Just hover your mouse over the tool, and it will say Eraser.
When you have selected the Eraser, go up to the Brush options box at the top of the screen, and click on the downfacing arrow. Set the Hardness of the brush to 100% so you will have accurate control of selection. You may also need to raise or lower the brush size to suit.
Erase away any black and white from where you want the color to be revealed.
When done go to
Layer - Flatten Image
Then just do a Save As to wherever you want to save the photo.

I think i have the old version. I'm not out to change or alter the way i look [get rid of spots, reshape nose ectect.] in photographs, becuase i dont take many pictures of MYSELF... but in general photography i want to make a 'soft' effect

I think the pictures you found were actually taken in fog/on a foggy day. The "soft" look came from the light conditions when the photo was taken, not necessarily an add on in Photoshop. I encourage you to continue to play with Photoshop. Try the "Filters" and "Effects" options. There is a blur in the filters that might give you a soft look you want.

But to get a general look somewhat like this in PS, you can do the following:

Blur the photo until it is very blurred, but still recognizable.
Then go to the Opacity slider above the layers pallete. Move the slider all the way back to 0.
Then gradually move the slider into the positive range to gradually bring back some of the blur. Usually about 50% will be the most you will ever need.
This can give an overall softness that looks good on some photos, but not all, it just depends on the scene.

Taking pics of airplanes near Pearson YYZ?
there is a nice spot (actually a couple of them) from which to take pictures of planes taking off and landing at Pearson Intl. airport, Toronto, Canada. Has anyone ever been stopped by police there and asked to leave the area/delete pictures? I hear a lot of stories like that from people from U.S., I'm not sure how things are going in Canada.

You need to use food-safe glazes, but if you didn't, I think the worst you could get is lead poisoning, and you'd have to use the thing an awful lot even to get that.

No, it will not give you cancer. Potters today are required by law to not use any lead bearing glazes on functional pottery. If lead is used on a pot there must be a hole in the bottom so it can not hold any liquid.

Anything made in Asian(China, Vietnam etc) countries I would be wary off as I and probably anyone else reading this does not know the standards used in these countries. I have seen plates for sale in Australia with stickers on them saying "not to be used with food", after pointing this out to the store owner the next week the plates were still there minus the stickers. Never use a dry glazed pot for food, the surface is not sealed and the glaze usually contains barium.

Photography of people?
I was wondering if it was legal to take pictures of random people without them knowing and distribute them publicly. I wouldn't be selling them or doing any widespread distrubution (they would be for my personal portfolio, and I'm not planning on getting big) and I plan on getting consent before I do anyway (for moral reasons), but incase I don't get to talk to the people I photograph to get consent, if the photo was taken from public property, would it be illegal to put it in my portfolio without consent?

How can I keep a journal and make it interesting?
If you have ever seen the movie "Bridge to Terabithia" or other movies like that, there are kids or people who keep journals. They creatively write in them, draw in them and everything. How can I keep up with this? Everytime I try and journal write everynow and then, I get bored and don't do it!

it really just matters on what I'm planning on painting and if I dont have a plan I just use colors that I feel are right. Most of the time use my feelings to choose what color I should use.

There is a difference with what subject I am painting, but there are always some great colors I love use in my pallet. I think with modern painting, earth tones have been subjugated to the more modern colors. I always use earth tones in my paintings like: umber, burnt umber, raw sienna, and green earth, to name just a few. I also adore a color from Williamsburg oils called Turkey umber. It is a dark earth color with a greenish hue. It is wonderful. The other colors that I love that aren't the usual subjects are the transparent colors like the lakes, the beautiful lakes. They are wonderful to glaze with. Lastly the most important color in you pallet is White. In the end, once all the paints are mixed, it works out to at least 65% of the paint used in most paintings. There are many white choices. I like to use Titanium and Unbleached Titanium (a beautiful color) for under paintings, because I am not worried about smudging with my fingers, and lead white for the highlights. White is, although completely taken for granted, the most important color on the pallet. It is this important because mixed along with blacks, complimentary colors, greys, local color (the main color in your subject) and other around darker colors, is what designates value, which in turn, is what creates form in a painting.

They are wonderful to glaze with. Lastly the most important color in you pallet is White. In the end, once all the paints are mixed, it works out to at least 65% of the paint used in most paintings. There are many white choices. I like to use Titanium and Unbleached Titanium (a beautiful color) for under paintings, because I am not worried about smudging with my fingers, and lead white for the highlights. White is, although completely taken for granted, the most important color on the pallet. It is this important because mixed along with blacks, complimentary colors, greys, local color (the main color in your subject) and other around darker colors, is what designates value, which in turn, is what creates form in a painting.

You should use the Paint program or something like that and paint over it with a similiar dark colour.

Forget the healing tool, their is a technique which we use that can clone different part of the pic just like grafting skin to replace a scar.

Reply:First off, it's going to be time consuming to fix it, so just be prepared.
I'd try running a 'dust and scratches' filter on it first and see if that helps. It may not fix it, but it may make finishing it easier. That's under Filters %26gt; Noise %26gt; Dust and Scratches. Start with a radius of 2 and threshold of 20 and work from there. It does blur the image a bit, so depending on your finish application that may or may not be acceptable.
Next zoom into the photo so you're working at a pixel level around the scratches. Select the "Clone Stamp Tool" and set the pixel size to 2 or 3. Hold down Alt and left click at the same time to set a starting area. Then move over to what you want to fix and mimic the flow of the area. For instance if you begin with the big blight on his hair, alt-click a little above the start and then move in a slightly arched up to down motion. This will sample the pixels and clone them where you're clicking. It helps lend a much more natural tone to the area than just selecting a color and painting with it.
As a side note, this is a great way to go into a young persons face and remove blemishes.
Remember to save your work to a new file - don't over write the original. And save your progress as you go along. You'll be very upset if you are almost done and your computer locks up loosing all the work you've done.
This looks like about an hours worth of work to me. It may take you longer while you're getting used to how the tool works.

Set the healing brush to 8-10 pixels and get started. Save often. If the spot is too near another color, use the clone tool to repair the damage.

We, assuming you live in America, only have one national museum and most of the expensive works of art in our national museum was donated to it. These donations may be tax write-offs by the people who donate the art but it doesn't cost taxpayers anything.

I'm building a website called 'Journey of the Shoes' for a class project.
I'm wanting everyone that is willing to take a picture of their shoes where ever they want whether it be a place of special meaning to you, something interesting you've seen or maybe a landmark you live by? You can put anything else in the photo you want except a human. animals are ok but I don't want to have to deal with the whole rights of people in the photos and what not. I'm hoping that by the end of the year I will have photographs from all over the world of one thousand different pairs of shoes. The shoes must not be attached to feet or feet like appendages.

I think it would look cool to make all of the words on the cover look like they were words, letters, and sentences ripped out of magazines. I don't know why, but I find it can have a cool look to it as long as it's not overdone.

i agree that yes, most have moved away from smelly fixer hands to carpal tunnel wrists, but there is still a craft there. How you capture and process images is different, but in the end its still based upon the same principles as film was in light, shadow, color, and angle.
Reply:You know when Kodak introduced the box camera and roll film a little over 120 some odd years ago people worried about the same thing. Whereas previously photography was only in the hands of professionals roll film and the box camera opened up photography to a lot more people. Just because photography was opened up to more people did not negate the aesthetic sensibilities of either the collector or the artist. In fact a lot of good photography was created during hte 20th century despite the fact that every decade which passed photography became easier to practice (SLR design, 35mm,1 hour processing etc...). About this same time that all the professionals were complaining that photography was being spoiled because of the introduction of the box camera and roll film there was a Renaissance in fine art photography in the United States as promoted by Alfred Stieglitz and the photo secessionists which raised the aesthetic and conceptual standards of Photography in America.
Now perhaps you are right in the fact that some of the most prominent figures in photography in terms of publications are for the most part computer geeks and not serious photographers. Unlike 30 years ago, if you put out a how to on photography you also had to be a recognized artist, for instance the Ansel Adams series of photography books.
Now in terms of a loss of craftspeople, I dont feel this is the case. Photography has always been driven by technology but if one wants to be a good practitioner of photographer one does not approach photography as merely a computer scientist or chemist if their true intent is to be a good artisan/crafts person. Knowing how to mix chemistry or use photoshop should not in any way negate the integrity of your artistic sensibilities, and just because digital photography is less visceral of an experience than say traditional silver process photography does not mean that their work is of less value.
Additionally I have noted that there has been a resurgences interest in antiquated silver and non silver processes. Look at groups such as APUG.org or Alternativephotography.com membership is up at these places. Then again you can create just as much junk using silver processes as you can using digital processes.

demon bursting out of a body through any of the orifices or through the neck after the head has been chopped off.....demon having its way with the sacrificial victim.......a "leather face" type character sewing up his latest creation......any number of animals or even zombies feeding on "something".....witches dispatching the body of a man for the cauldron......not gory but how about a priest kissing the angel of death on the ring much like they do the pope....a mans head at the point of the guillotine blade about half way through the neck......one of the female "lurers" of Greek mythology atop a mountain of bones toying with a fresh corpse.....a skull about half rotten and oozing that has various bugs, worms and vermin crawling about on it.....the body of a demon with corpses and skulls hanging off of it like jewelry....Satan or any demon tearing into the female flesh blood everywhere but on her face a look of pleasure......illustrate a scene from the writings of the marquis de Sade....a rotting corpse inside a faerie ring[circle of mushrooms] with ugly evil looking faeries and bugs circling.....floating corpses in a river of blood with strange fish and creatures eating at them....a murderer dressing himself in the skin of his latest victim.....
