Bob Ross plays on LPB here. Public Broadcasting in your town? There is also a create channel on Public Broadcasting.

I like to watch his show, he is so laid back.
Reply:Bob Ross died back in 1995. Anything you see him in now is a repeat.

The series was originally developed and produced for public television. Perhaps your local PBS station airs repeats of the original programs?

If not, as has already been suggested, you can catch some of his videos on You Tube. Or you can buy (yes, I know they're not free) the published DVDs from the series. If you're tight for money your local library probably has these DVDs and you can check them out and watch them at home.
Reply:If you live in England you can watch him on Cable tv. The programme is " Real Time." @9 to10am

How has the incredible cost of gasoline/diesel affected your photography?

My photography? Not one bit!
How has the incredible cost of gasoline/diesel affected your photography?
I want to say it hasn't, because it really shouldn't, but it has a little bit. I live just outside of a large city and it happens to be one of my favorite places to go when I'm feeling adventurous, so of course a lot of my photos are taken there. It's just getting to be to expensive to drive around the city every weekend now :(
How has the incredible cost of gasoline/diesel affected your photography?
The biggest impact it has had is an indirect fashion:

A) More money to fill my tank and go to and from work, making me work more hours to effectively have the same checks I had before after gas, so less time to shoot, and less money to buy supplies online.

B) Higher costs in shipping. I've spent some decent cash lately buying a decent stockpile of Type 669 film and to test out Fuji's replacement for 669. For a comparable shipment earlier, the cost of shipping has gone up by a decent amount, too. Emulsion Transfers must feed.

C) Going either to drive to subjects, or to get objects for the emulsion transfers.

The first one is the biggest problem I've had - B%26amp;C are secondary concerns.
Reply:It affects my invoices to my clients.

They are now paying an additional $50 to all my day-rates and licensing fees. No one has complained. The increased energy costs are finding their way into my utilities as well.
Reply:It is about to open up new areas to me that I'd not consider before.

It was too expensive to drive to some parts of the city before, and my fear of heights made the highway overpasses (50-100 feet in the air), unuseable.

Now that I am going to get a bicycle and a trolley pass, much more of the city is accessible.

Photoshop effects?

how can i make the effect of a star jumping out from somewhere? im trying to locate a picture for reference but i can find one. its like flying out from behind of an object...
Photoshop effects?
Duplicate the star layer, apply motion blur, and use envelope warp to curve and perspectivise it, then apply a layer mask to hide the beginning of the movement behind the object and by applying a gradient reduce the intensity of the further part of the swoosh.

Can a nude photograph be considered art? Doesn't it just appeal to the base, animal, or primal instinct in us?

The nude has been a subject of art for thousands of years; photography is just another medium.

Your question suggests you have some unfortunate attitudes there: Base? Animal? Primal? You won't appreciate art in any form until you get away from this gratuitous moralizing about natural matters.

Remember, if your parents had not succumbed to their 'base, animal' instincts you wouldn't be here to ask the question, such as it is.
Can a nude photograph be considered art? Doesn't it just appeal to the base, animal, or primal instinct in us?
The human body is the most beautiful piece of art there is and a photograph is another way of showing others just how beautiful the body is. I agree with the first responder and his comments. It is so easy to let the prudes of the world try to convince us that works of art are pornography. You will get exactly what you want when you look at any piece of art, if you want it to appear animalistic then it will, if you want it to affect your primal instinct then it will, but if you want to see the beauty of it, see the talent of the artist, and see what is trying to be said then you will see that. It is all on you and your attitude to determine what is art to you.
Can a nude photograph be considered art? Doesn't it just appeal to the base, animal, or primal instinct in us?
The ancients considered the body as a work of art. Some of us still do and some confuse nudity with lust and sex.

a
Reply:The answer is yes and no.

What it boils down to is the character, interests and mindset of the person viewing it, and also to the nature of the image.

With those variables at work it is unlikely that any two people will see the same image in exactly the same way.

I see most of it as art.

Someone else might have a lower shock threshold and be troubled by images that to others are simply natural.

Yet others with a more base nature will see art in nothing and sex in everything.

While I may not agree with them they are entitled to their own way of seeing things. It's only when people try to ram their views down everyone else's throat that I get antsy about it.

So MM, the answer to your question is

yes, it CAN be considered art,

and

no it doesn't just appeal to those people with the mindset that you mentioned, it is for everyone else too.
Reply:If it is done right, with good lighting, good composition, good pose, good setting, and a person with a nice figure, it is most definitely art. I have seen some of the most beautiful work done in both black %26amp; white and color. If you've done any world traveling, you'd also realize how the human body has been portrayed as art in one form or another since history began. I am NOT, of course, referring to the crap in men's magazines like Hustler, etc, which depicts the naked woman for sexual reasons only, not for art.
Reply:Yes, sometimes. Sometimes not. A photograph is just the same as any other image in this respect. Do you think Michelangelo's 'David' can be considered art, or does it just appeal to the viewer's base, animal or primal instinct?

How much did you spend on the vehicle used to transport your photography equipment? What MPG does it get?

I have a Nissan X-trail Ti . It chews up the gas on short trips but is great on long trips,I like it and it's big enough to cart around a lot of paintings.

Mine's exactly the same as this one (same color too):

Right now I am using a Toyota Corolla ($15k). Wonderful MPG (30+), but it requires regular maintenance now that it is 8 years old.

My next vehicle gets infinite miles to the gallon and costs less than $600 - a bicycle plus a trolley pass! Getting to the beach in my car costs $6 one way. With the bicycle and NO pass, it is $5 round trip. Plus, it's a lot easier to park a bicycle than a car.

People born with natural talent in drawing? or just with interest in it ?

I like to believe that people aren't born with natural talent in drawing but only with interest in the subject, which motivates them to practice from an early age and later come to be seen as "gifted"

I'm 14 and I beat everyone I know in person at drawing ( except super older professionals of coarse). In my drawing class in community college I was way better then everyone else and one of the few who got an A.

People assumed I was just a gifted child but I actually just practice practice practice. I pour blood, sweat, and tears into drawing. I do do it for fun, but when I'm trying to learn new techniques I treat it as a scientist would when doing research and try to keep an open mind. It is serious business if you wan't to get good.

I very much like to believe that I'm good only becuase of practice and interest in drawing.

Does anyone else think this ?
People born with natural talent in drawing? or just with interest in it ?
Some people do have natural artistic talent. They seem to instinctively know balance and design. As a child, even their scribbles look good.

But even natural talent can improve with hard work and practice. And a person that doesn't have much natural talent can still develop skill, however the person with natural talent will always have that little extra something that separates skilled from great.
People born with natural talent in drawing? or just with interest in it ?
Yes ...there are two ways by which a person can become a superb artist...first is like you ...with lots of hard work and dedication ..u become perfect........and the other is the way ur talking abt ur sister.......I m a psychology student and we learnt this in the begining that there's some stage when a child learns " HAND AND EYE CO-ORDINATION".....that has to do with vision,ba;lance and judgement ....many a times children gain that ability a bit faster than other children and hence they are referred as CHILDREN with natural talent or born artist ....so its all about the timing of hand and eye co-ordination and even the family environment....for their content of the imagination....thanx ....all the best and may god give u one of the best arts in the world ...and u may be a reknowned artist all over ....just because of ur hardwork and dedication ...all the best for ur future endeavours....
Reply:I too fully agree with your statement. I was exactly the same which i was in my school and college days. No one could dare to win me in any art competition in my place during my school and college days. For me too it was sheer practice practice practice, and i wish to always see perfection in my work. Which has brough me a long way. We can say 90% is practice and 10% is talent.

when i was kid, i just feel that i love to draw anything even my drawings are bad lmao.....

but i just keep drawing and drawing and finally i can get good result in drawing.....

i called it not a talent but an instinct to keep drawing and drawing even though im bad at that so that i become very good at drawing......
Reply:No one is born an artist but everyone is born with the need to express themselves and some find or pick their medium of choice earlier than most. Interest in whatever one does helps one remain focused and practice makes one better. The only problem i have with everything you have added after your question is, you compare other artists work to yours and put yourself on top. In art, being good at what you do helps but you will soon learn that there is more to it than that. In the real world no one cares what your grades were or how good you think you are. Three things to keep in mind are, substance, consistancy, and does your artistic skill have any marketable value. You are young and need to keep in mind, having what it takes is one thing, actually going out there and doing something with it is another.

Can anyone tell me what eqpt i need to copy and print on to acetate sheets?

my girlfriend does this at normal office supply stores and/or kinko's. They have the sheets there and you just have them copy your stuff on them.

Or you could buy yourself a laser copier and some acetate sheets, assuming the copier you buy can use them. You'd best do some research on that. Available at any office supply store.
Can anyone tell me what eqpt i need to copy and print on to acetate sheets?
Most inkjet printers are capable of printing on acetate sheets (but both inkjet and laser printers require a specialist stock). And many will also scan work, problem is that the coverage is not very heavy.
Can anyone tell me what eqpt i need to copy and print on to acetate sheets?
Manufacturers make acetate sheets especially for laser and ink jet printing. One just runs the sheets through the appropriate device just like one would do ordinairy paper.

Just remember, when printing with an ink jet printer, allow more drying time to let the dots dry and adhere to the slightly textured surface of the acetate.

Can anyone tell me what eqpt i need to copy and print onto acetate sheets?

A scanner to copy to a computer and an inkjet printer to print using OHP transparency film for inkjet printers available from most stationers. Or most copy and print services will do it all for you.

Yes. I remember struggling drawing characters in the simplest of poses. (Years later, I still struggle at times.)
Is it considered hard to learn how to draw anime/cartoon rly well?
It depends. If you are only starting, yes, it will be hard. But the more you practice, the better your technique will get and your definition of "hard" will change. At that level, though, you will notice that what you once thought was hard has become basic to you.

How to develop stencils using a UV lamp?

Does anyone know how to develop a stencil using a UV lamp? i make a drawing in photoshop, print it out on transparent sheet then i need to develop it under a UV lamp to make a stencil to paint, etch or draw round. Any suggestions. Thanks
How to develop stencils using a UV lamp?
I think you may have misunderstood the nature of the process. What you are describing is the procedure for making up a silk screen for printing.

To do this you will have to have darkroom conditions, and coat a silkscreen thinly on both sides with photo-sensitive emulsion using an emulsion trough. Let it dry flat,(do not expose it to light) then place your transparency over it and expose it according to the emulsion manufacturers instructions. Once exposed the screen must be washed out under water pressure to remove the unset emulsion from the positive space caused by the transparency.

Questions for Graphic Designers about printing-- matte background and glossy lamination?

So I have a portfolio due on Monday for my ART155A class. But I have a problem. I can鈥檛 find a place to print out my work in a specific way.

Here鈥檚 a link to my work:

http://www.csupomona.edu/~cgso/ART155A/F...

http://www.csupomona.edu/~cgso/ART155A/F...

I鈥檝e been in high school yearbook for 3 years so I guess I鈥檓 a tad bit ahead of the class. What I want is a matte cover (for the gray background) and everything else (texts, lines, pictures) with glossy lamination. I鈥檓 not sure what the exact term it is and where I can find a place that prints it, cause obviously Kinko鈥檚 and the school鈥檚 print and copy center doesn鈥檛 do it. Does anyone have any advice for me? I鈥檒l appreciate any help. Thanks!
Questions for Graphic Designers about printing-- matte background and glossy lamination?
That printing is called a "veneer."

I can't view the links so I'm not exactly sure what your design is. Since it's due Monday, you probably will not have time to have it printed. What you could do is get a piece of black matte paper. Get some contact paper - shelf liner paper, and draw your design on that. Cut out your design using an exacto blade. Then peel off the contact paper and stick it to the paper. Get some clear spray paint and spray over the top of the design. When it dries, pull off the contact paper, and wah-lah. (Like airbrushing).

OR - You could get a black piece of paper that would fit in the printer. Do the design that you would like in a lighter black, or grey. So, it's light black on black - that may give the same effect, and wouldn't be as time consuming as the airbrushed veneer.

Good luck!
Questions for Graphic Designers about printing-- matte background and glossy lamination?
Talk to someone at a high end commercial printer. The technique you describe may be foil imprinting. You often see it on book covers.

Another technique used is to "print" a layer of glossy varnish on the areas you want glossy. This glossy varnish is laid on top of the already printed color.

Another way to "fake" this effect is for the glossy areas to be "die cut" from the cover and adding a sheet of foil covered stock UNDER the cut out cover page. The glossy sheet will be seen through the die cut areas. Again, I've seen all of these techniques on paperback book covers.

Why does Picasso use the minotaur (bull) in the painting Guernica?

I think it's a horse, and it is a painting about war. Maybe not, but its probably symbolic for the anger in the army.
Why does Picasso use the minotaur (bull) in the painting Guernica?
Its symbolic for something, but im not sure what. That's because as the viewer, Picasso includes these symbols for us to interpriate. Is the bull Picasso? is the bull war? is the bull the answer to solve the war? All i know is that because he grew up in Spain, he loved watching the bull fights, which was a huge aspect in Spanish culture. The work is surrounded around the War in Spain, and i think Guernica is filled with so many symbols for us to discover and wonder "what did he mean by producing this work?" and "what does it mean to me? what do i feel?" To you, what does the bull represent? :)
Why does Picasso use the minotaur (bull) in the painting Guernica?
It was not the Minitaur. I think that part of the image was just to illustrate that much of the horrors of war are visited upon the innocents, livestock as well as human. A person need not be fatally wounded to be destroyed. Destroy his means of making a living and feeding his family is almost as bad as destroying his flesh.

What do they call those character sheets wth the front/profile viewfor animations?

Y'know, the ones where the character is stood there with guiding lines from all the relevant angles?
What do they call those character sheets wth the front/profile viewfor animations?
Working drawing? They're usualy used in 3D design terms but it kind of bleeds over into animation, occasionally they're referred to as model sheets
What do they call those character sheets wth the front/profile viewfor animations?
Model Sheets. They go way back in Animation to the days of the earliest studios.

http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Model+...

They call 3-D models Maquettes and they have been used in animated films (both traditional and computer animations) comic strips, and illustrations as guides for drawing and, occasionally, as photographed collage elements. There are photos on the 'Net of a maquette one of the monsters of the original Doom video game, made by Adrian Carmack.

Blurry polaroid pictures?

i have a polaroid sun 600 lms. it works fine when i take pictures inside a building. but when i'm outside taking pictures, they're always blurry.

and i noticed that when i'm outside, the pictures go blue when developing but when i'm at indoor places, the pictures go pink/red when developing.

it's winter here.. does it have anything to do with the temperature being cold outside?

i don't know much about polaroid.. so i'm just taking a guess.
Blurry polaroid pictures?
Yes, it is probably the temperature - but also, camera shake and color balance.

What kind of camera should i use for really rich and effective photos?

Must they be the old polaroid kinds since the newer models are getting all sorts of useless functions?
What kind of camera should i use for really rich and effective photos?
Medium format digital cameras produce very nice quality images - but "effective" depends on your skill. Even a $30,000 Hassleblad won't make someone a photographer.

Hello i need some advice ,using a Hasselblad 500 C/M?

on the lens (SYNCHRO COMPUR) what do the green numbers on the lens represent, and also theres an opision to choseV,X and M,and theres also a button to close the shutter even more ,how and when is this function used

Many thanks
Hello i need some advice ,using a Hasselblad 500 C/M?
M and X refer to different flash synchronization settings. When using old fashioned flash bulbs, the bulb needs a small delay to reach full intensity. Thus, on the M setting, the camera fires the flash a fraction of a second before the shutter opens. M stands for Medium peak bulb, which was the most common type of flash bulb(there are also fast and slow peak bulbs).

The X setting is used with normal electronic strobes, which reach their full intensity immediately. The shutter opens at the same time the flash is fired. The X stands for Xenon, which is the gas used to fill the flash tubes.

V is the self timer setting.

In normal use, leave it set to X. If the switch is set to M when using an electronic strobe, the flash will fire and go off before the shutter even opens, so it will effectively be a non-flash photo.

I'm not familiar enough with Hasselblad to answer your third question.

I would caution you, though, that Hasselblads are extremely easy to completely screw up with improper operation. Read and understand the manual before attempting to use them. If you still have a question about a feature, ask a local camera shop or even a pro who uses a Hasselblad before screwing around with it. Otherwise, you could end up with a lockup, or even worse a repair bill of a couple hundred dollars.
Hello i need some advice ,using a Hasselblad 500 C/M?
I think your third Q refers to the lever to close the aperture on the lens down so you can see the depth of field before you take the final picture.

On a Hasselblad 500 C/M is it possible to do double exposures, if so how would you do it?

can anyone also tell me what the orange numbers on the 2.8 planner SYNCHRO COMPUR lens mean?

Many thanks
On a Hasselblad 500 C/M is it possible to do double exposures, if so how would you do it?
Rewind!
On a Hasselblad 500 C/M is it possible to do double exposures, if so how would you do it?
First of all, the orange numbers usually refer to "T"-stops, which are more accurate than f-stops for fine calculations in exposure because they take the particular lens elements, size of barrel, length of barrel, etc, into consideration, where f-stops do NOT.

To do a double exposure with a Hasseblad you first make sure the camera is on a tripod. Then, after your first shot, you very carefully put the metal divider back in. Carefully remove the back. Slowly crank the film advance handle. Put the back back on. Remove the divider and take your second shot. It's a little bit of a hassle (no pun intended) but worth it. After you practice a few times, with no film in the camera, you'll get the hang of it and it'll be a snap.

Have fun.
Reply:I don't have a synchro compur lens but have cf lenses. i think you are referring to the 'ev' numbers which are a comnination of shutter and aperture. ie. if you meter a scene with a good meter it will have the ability to meter in Ev or Fno. A particular Fno and shutter speed will have a corresponding Ev value. Let's say I meter a scene and the Ev is 11. I set my marker to correspond with 11 on the dial. I can then depress the button on the F stop to lock both shutter and aperture and maintain 11 whilst turning the aperture ring. Sounds complicated but works great.

What is the best, simplest, easiest font for creating ambigrams with?
For fonts, I suggest any English-type fonts. They are easy to manipulate and more variations can come up with it. I can come up with most ambigrams using English-type fonts. For a basic English font try using Collins. For a more stylish type try Medici font. Both fonts can be downloaded from the web. You can visit some of my design here www.ambigfx.wordpress.com

Who are artists (like painters) who depict about theme "stress" in his/her work?
Artists who paints about theme "stress"?
Edvard Munsch - The Scream. He was marvelous at pastels too. Great artist.
Artists who paints about theme "stress"?
You could say that "stress" shows up alot in Expressionism....

as in E. Much's "THE SCREAM".....but it goes deeper than that/plus alot of artists use 'tension 'in overll design for effect.

Do you think this painting could be in a gallery?

It was painted by a 14-year-old. The blue is not part of the painting, it is the carpet, and I am sorry about the poor angle at which the picture is taken.
Do you think this painting could be in a gallery?
I don't know if its gallery ready but I like it! Keep at it!

Reply:Yes it could go into an art gallery of children鈥檚 art. Most galleries require the artist be at least 18 years old to exhibit. But there are always exceptions. Check around in your locale and inquire by talking to the owner or person in charge.

This also would give a gallery curator much more bull$hit room with their potential customers.

Most definitely I could see something like this in a gallery and actually selling for several thousand dollars!

Great job...sell it on ebay!

I see all sorts of paintings like this selling all the time on ebay. Offices and the like hang stuff like this all the time.

Keep up the good work and soon enough someone with mega-bucks will pass by, see it and the rest as we say will be history. You'll be famous and have artwork selling for hundreds of thousands of dollars....just like Jackson Pollock or even Picasso!

While in my opinion their paintings weren't the greatest or even make any sense whatsoever, very wealthy people saw their work and decided to sponsor or back the artists with funds that the artists would optherwise never have, to get their work into famous and highly prestigious galleries, shouting to the world how great these artists work was and how collectable it would become...thus driving the prices skyward and prodding the very rich to scrammble to the local galleries where these paintings were hung, purchase several pieces from these virtually unknowns and from then on their stardom grew exponentially!!!

That aside and excuse my ranting, your painting is just fine and to answer your question directly...Yes, i could see this painting in a gallery :)

Also because its very clean and finished work. I've been selling my daughters work on Ebay since she was 11yrs-go check that out perhaps. Galleries are hard to get into as an adult and they take 40% usually-but local art shows for students, postercontests and Ebay have given my daughter experience and fun monies- Good luck!

As a gallery owner, I'd say it's not quite gallery ready yet, but the artist has a good eye (no pun intended!) and should be encouraged.

Do you know of a abstract painting that a beginner could paint besides different shapes. Something cool/pretty

Anything you put on a surface has a shape. Some shapes are distinct and some shapes are obscure. For ideas search German abstract paintings:

http://www.art-germany.com/abstractpaint...

I do abstract paintings. I enjoy exploring colors and relationships of shades and shapes. I sometimes take my 2D idea and turn into a sculpture. I am currently working on one.

Do you know of a abstract painting that a beginner could paint besides different shapes. Something cool/pretty
Flowers can be nice actually-because you can crop them in close and have fun dealing with shapes and shadows. Also rock formations or other natural shapes.
Do you know of a abstract painting that a beginner could paint besides different shapes. Something cool/pretty
you are approaching painting from the wrong end. abstraction is not something you do as a beginner because you think it is easy - after all, there are no pesky elbows, three-quarter portraits etc.

abstraction is something you paint when you have reached the heart of the matter, so to speak.

so do this exercise: draw a bowl of fruit, or flowers, about six or seven times. each time you draw it, approach it from a different perspective - light/shadow, volume, surface texture etc.

you will find that this exercise trains you to look at objects from a much different view point, and you will begin to see essential qualities of the objects that are masked by realism.

for example, look at this image: http://www.oldstilepress.com/Pagescreens...

you will see that the artist has gone beyond the heads of grain, the bark of trees, the shapes of bushes, to find something within these objects that is expressed and is expressive of an inner quality.

good luck

How do i refill my foundation pen?

Do you mean fountain pen? If so, then there are different types. Some have a tube which needs to be filled by forcing the air out of the tube first, then letting it fill itself from the inkwell. In the older types, you had to fill the ink chamber with a dropper. The modern types have cartridges which can be replaced.

Hope this helps. Never heard of a foundation pen.

What is the best eraser for pencil?

for rubbing out pencil shading or lines without leaving marks or smudging.
What is the best eraser for pencil?
I always bite my eraser off my pencil.

Because. I never make mistakes. %26lt;}:-})
What is the best eraser for pencil?
STAEDTLER mars plastic. I don't think they are that expensive and for myself, they never smudge. however any pencill over a HB will smudge when being erased as they simply arent meant to be, they can be removed with gum or pastel erasers however. stick to hb or lower pencils, particularly if you are going to ink over them.

Reply:Faber Castel
Reply:Me being very fond of stationaries..i've tried out many erasers. and for me Faber Castle and Maped works out neat.
Reply:Without doubt it is blu tack. I don't know if that is what it's called in America, but it's used to put up posters etc. Sort of like moldable putty stuff.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu_Tack

It's all I ever use and I'm a successful professional

Gum erasers are ok too, but they leave a mess
Reply:some offer special eraser (triangle shape) but i still prefer the black eraser bcoz it will smoothly erase even worse dark drawing cleanly better than white earser or others.

this is from my experience.
Reply:A good eraser is always a compromise between being able to remove the pencil image, and in NOT removing the paper surface.

In this situation, a softer eraser is much better. Those hard, pink erasers can remove the marks, but abrade much of the paper surface to do it. A softer eraser, such as an ArtGum eraser will do less damage to the paper, but will onlly go so far at picking up graphite gouged deep into the paper's fibers.

I recommend one of these ArtGum erasers, combined with an adjustment of your technique to sketch more lightly. Block out the major elements of your drawing, erasing as little as possible, until you have all of your components in place. It is actually better to leave a lightly sketched mistake in place untill you are finished with this blocking portion.

If it is to be a finished pencil sketch, lightly rub out the mistakes, but if they resist, don't work too hard on this. Go back in with a softer pencil and darken in your details, working toward a finished work. You may find that much of your mistake is covered up by the darker shading. When done, if you still have to remove some lines, do it carfully, sheilding your finished lines with a piece of scrap paper.

The real point is to minimise the use of your eraser, in any case. The fewer mistakes you make, the better. If you do make a mistake, do it in very light pressure strokes. Try not to erase anything untill you have to.

Practice and practice some more. The more mistakes you make in practice, the less you'll make on a finished piece of work. There should come a time when you won't need an eraser, at all. I RARELY use one, myslef.

How do you get those annoying marks off pictures?

like, gettyimages - they're so annoying; you can hardly see the picture.
How do you get those annoying marks off pictures?
You can't, they are watermarks to protect the owner of the picture.
How do you get those annoying marks off pictures?
You cant,

there watermark, its copyright for the owners

although..

if you good a photoshop and its not on a main or detailed part of the pictured then you may be able to get it off
Reply:Those are watermarks "intended" to keep people from stealing the photographers images. You cannot remove them. We professional photographers have to earn a living like everyone else, and when people steal our images without paying for them, that is dishonest and not fair to the person who worked so hard to capture these photographs in the first place. Professional photographs are also copyrighted which marks them as the personal property of the photographer. If someone steals the images without compensating the photographer, he can sue that person for damages. Putting a watermark on a photograph protects it from being usable while it's being displayed over the internet.

Graphic Designer?

What Is It %26amp;%26amp; What Do They Do?x
Graphic Designer?
Design neat things on the computer. Can be used in factories to design parts for machines or buildings and things of that sort
Graphic Designer?
a lot of work my be a designer for games or programs or buldings or just photos and pics
Reply:im studying 4 a graphic designer, its more like information design where you design advertisements, web page designs, logo's and so on. these people answering has alot of research to do, thy got no idea how hard arts is.
Reply:Designing anything from logo's to products. I.e. MP3's or fragrance containers. Involves using advanced drawing techniques and computer software. One of the main programs used is CAD. Everything around you has been designed. However graphic designers tend to cover the more aesthetic elements of design, such as logo's, packaging, advertisements, web design, etc.

Hope that helps.
Reply:Graphic designers create visual organation and communicate idea(s) through their art through the use of the elements and principles of design . Elements include Line, shape, direction, scale, texture, color, and value. Principles include balance, gradation, repetition, contrast, harmony, unity, dominance of size and interest.

When a graphic designer creates art, he/she must organize these elements and principles within an art piece to create an aesthetic visual impact or interest usually to evoke a reaction from the viewer.
Reply:They design things- logos, websites, flyers, posters etc. Graphic design is a form of "applied art"

I want to draw but I don't know what to get?
Go to an art supply store and get a good pencil, pastels and a nice big drawing pad. Don't be shy on the size of the pad...it may surprise you how big your imagination can be if you allow yourself the space!

Good luck and have some fun!!!
Reply:Get a mechanical pencil, colored pencils, a pink eraser, charcoal pencils, a drawing pad. You can also get tortillions (used for blending in the shading in the picture. This makes for a smooth transition between the mid tones, shadows and highlights in your drawing). You may also want to get fixative spray. This "seals" the pencil lead on the paper so that the picture can't get smudged. These are just a few things you can invest in for you artistic endeavors. Have fun drawing!
Reply:you can go to an art store, or even wal mart, and get a pack of drawing supplies for a few bucks (it comes with blending stick, different pencils, eraser, manual pencil sharpener). there may be a couple other things in there, too.
Reply:Check out the new items from the Crayola people. There are colored pencils and drawing sticks that have a great feel and allow you to have a different line on paper. Materials don't have to be expensive. It is what you do with them that counts, not the tool that you use.

This was the flag of the American Colonies at the time of the American Revolution against England.

It features a rattlesnake above the warning, "DON'T TREAD ON ME". The rattlesnake had become a traditional symbol of the American Colonies. The most obvious reason for this is that the rattlesnake was only found in the American Colonies (and in abundance, to the dismay of settlers) and nowhere else in the world. The origin of the slogan (Don't Tread On Me) pertains to the snake's deadly strike and the idea that it is best to leave them alone.

The snake on the flag is also roughly arranged in the shape of the American Colonies with the tip of the tail being the Florida peninsula and the head being New England.

Because of its connection with the original intention of the U.S. Constitution and the freedoms sought by the American Revolutionaries, this Flag has been informally adopted by many Libertarians and those seeking strict interpretations of the U.S. Constitution.

Math problem with my art?

okay so for fathers day i am drawing my dad a picture i printed out on a peice of paper that is 8.5''x 11" but the paper im transforming it on to is 11"x 14". and i would like to use the squares technique were you draw the same number of squares on both of the papers and draw square by square breaking it down to little pieces now my question is how do i measure the squares out so both on the little paper and the big paper would have the same amount of squares?
Math problem with my art?
say wat?

nah i get u,,,

find out the area of both the cards n divide them together

the answer is one side of ur square
Math problem with my art?
The technique:

Divide the first piece of paper's width by the second's. Do the same for the lengths. Use the smallest unit.

So:

11 / 8.5 = 1.27 or approx. 1.3

14/11 = 1.27 or approx. 1.3

Answer: Use 1.3 inch squares.

In your case, they work out the same. :-)

You want a legitimate answer? Good for you!

The background is reminiscent of some of Van Gohg's work, particularly Starry Night...I like it. The colors are vivid, and well used. The perspective needs just the tiniest bit of work...Alice is there, but does not seem to be a part of it all, only like a sticker on top of it all. The Cheshire Cat, also, is a bit not in it. Again, thats a perspective thing. It could be that there is nothing in the foreground of the painting...you have some nice depth going in to the composition, but have left out anything happening in the foreground...even if its shadows and suggestions of things, it'd help to make Alice and the cat part of it, not on top of it.

I LOVE that you didn't give her a face! Whether or not it was by design is something else, but I simply love it.

I'd have like to have seen a bit more movement in the picture...maybe different angles on the mishrooms instead of them all being at the same "tilt"....

Very good, all in all...well done...congrats.
Reply:It shows that you have a lot of talent. Have you ever thought about becoming an illustrator? If I were you, I鈥檇 keep learning and practicing.

Reply:I like how your painting is colorful; colors are appealing to the eyes. It's not very catchy, there doesn't seem to be a focal point or anything to draw someone into the painting. But good job!!

=]
Reply:I wish it had a focal point, but I like the balance of cool and warm colors. My only really negative comment would be that, instead of interpreting "Alice in Wonderland" in your own way, you used Disney's Alice and Cheshire Cat. That could be considered plagiarism, and I think you show that you have WAY more creativity than that.
Reply:I like the composition, as someone already said you were clearly influenced by Van Gogh Starry Night, for your sky. However I disagree about Alice not having a face, from my experience as an art teacher when someone doesnt paint a face it is because they either cant paint faces or they attempted to and it went wrong. I really like the mushroom and the sizr of the characters in relation. well done
Reply:You're colors are nice but the idea is way too much of a rip off of what other people have already mentioned. I like the cat though, he was my favorite. The mushrooms are too reminiscent of bad black light posters. The painting itself is technically poor but it seems like you're trying to get somewhere...good luck.

Question for professional photgraphers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

I want to be a photographer but dont know what kind of camra to use. So my question is what kind of camra do you reccomend? Do you know where I could find it?

Thank you for the help.
Question for professional photgraphers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
Truth is any camera ( I recommend digital) is sufficient to begin to develop you eye for the shots you take. Dont invest a lot of money to start, but do get one with a zoom lens and at least 5MP.
Question for professional photgraphers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
This is a complicated question as there are so many cameras out there these days and you don't state whether you want to shoot film or digital.

With cameras, you pretty much get what you pay for. The more expensive cameras have more features and will do more for you as far as taking quality pictures, while the cheaper cameras will take pictures OK, but have little in the way of manual settings that you can adjust to varying lighting conditions and type of picture you are taking.

As far as film cameras, I have always been partial to Pentax, but Nikon, Minolta and Olympus also make superb cameras.

Digital cameras are relatively new to me. I have three, but two of them are cheap ones and the one "good" one I have is already outdated and while it works fine for what I use it for (shooting baseball), it's a lower end camera and barely suffices for that purpose.

If you want to be a photographer, invest in a name brand camera of one of the brands I mentioned above. And expect to pay between $600-$1000 for something that will get you started. Go to a camera shop and take a look at some of the cameras. Pick up some brochures and compare features to find the camera that will do what you want it to.

Cameras can be "money pits" -- there is always another lens or accessory that you will want to get, or a new body that has more features than your old one.

I probably have $4,000 invested in film cameras...and then digital cameras came along and I probably spent another $2,000 there amongst my three (and they aren't even very good ones!).

But definitely visit a local camera shop. That way you can ask questions and actually have the camera in your hands to see what it does.
Reply:Get a Canon Xti from a local camera shop. It should come as a kit for less than $800 (probably less than $600).

In my area, you could shop Best Buy or Costco.
Reply:film
Reply:So far no one has mentioned a thing about photography lessons. If I bought myself a Steinway, it won't make me a concert pianist. So with whatever camera you are getting, no matter how many features it has, and no matter how expensive it is, without proper lessons on how to use it, and not knowing the limitations to work around that, you will be very disappointed.
Reply:I suggest you go on a course to get the basics, then you will answer the question for yourself. There will certainly be guidelines with any course. Or contact a local photographic club, where tuition is usually free.

If your aiming to be professional then ultimately it will be an SLR (preferably digital, though these are expensive), film ones are much cheaper these days and there are thousands of good second hand ones to be had, but they are expensive to use and they don't offer the instant feedback that digital offers which really does make learning and experimenting easier.

If you decide digital then remember you will also need a pretty good computer (lots of RAM), a photo printer and software, which together with a DSLR is quite an investment, but it will allow you to practice virtually for free and experiment with all aspects of photography.

I would still advocate a college or club to get that 'bedrock' of basic technique and build on that.

hris
Reply:first get lessons and I recommend starting with a 35mm film camera. Each shot cost money so you will start to think before you press the shutter and then once developed, you will think again about the shot. Digital is too easy to chimp adjust and shoot again without thinking too much.

I love digital don't get me wrong and which ever way you go, do NOT start out with a zoom lens. People who do this tend to learn how to use a zoom lens the wrong way. They stand in one spot and compose by zooming in or out. This is wrong and you should learn to be able to visualise a focal length, compose and zoom in or out by using you legs. For this reason, I feel it is essential to start off using a prime lens. Not only do you get to learn about a particular focal length, prime lenses have superior image quality to zoom lenses at their given focal lengths (ie Nikon 50mm f1.8prime vs a 28-70mm f2.8 @ 50mm). Start with a 50mm and then once you have shot that for about 6 months-1 year, move onto a 28mm and/or a 105mm for ie.

i would recommend Nikon and only Nikon for many reasons but too many to list.

Could someone give me a link to a Ralph Lauren type ad picture featuring alligator leathergood accessories?

I'm looking for those really elegant, Great Gatsby era ads that Ralph Lauren used to have in magazines like GQ or Esquire that show vintage era looking backdrops. I need something showing alligator accessories (such as briefcase, wallet, belts, etc). Anything with alligator accessories would do.

Thanks for your efforts in helping me track a picture down.

In taking pictures for a photo business that I am starting, is it better to provide proofs or a disc or both?

Depends on what you have available to you.

A lot of photographers put small, low resolution pictures on a web site to speed the process along (plus reduce costs - no CD, no envelopes, no postage). Others will send a CD.

Paper proofs are the most expensive way to go. Depending on your client you may need to do that. Most people are familiar enough with the internet to work with digital proofs, but if you are taking photos of a 50th anniversary party - think real photos!

If you are using digital - whether web or CD - consider watermarking them.

Casio Exilim EX-Z80 come with memory card?

Do i need to buy anything else today when i buy this camera???
Casio Exilim EX-Z80 come with memory card?
I don't know it depends where your buying it from. Some suppliers offer a list of 'whats in the box' kind of thing. Some tell you if you need cards, batteries etc. and usually offer them. Yet other suppliers will include everything.

In any case it should be pretty clear from their web site.

Chris

yes, you do.

its an awesome camera, small and convientient.

have fun with it!

A2 photography student seeking second camera, small, in budget, travel proof, good quality?

I have a very good olympus camera, though it is too chunky to bring with me for a month to India, and I want something realistic in price yet small and best possible quality.

Will take all suggestions into consideration.

Please suggest models to me/give links

Thanks in advance! will award points to best.

Wow. You don't want much out of life ;-)

Lets see what I can find...

Edit:

How about this:

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/pa...

Kodak ZD710 7MP but ***10x optical zoom*** and only 拢99

Not too big and chunky.

If you really want an indestructible camera you'll have to look at the Olympus range.

Edit v2:

Ah, OK, try this one:

The Casio range are super slim, super small (real slip in your shirt pocket cameras) and have a huge LCD display at the back.

Theres a big argument for going with the camera that you're used to, you don't want to be wasting time getting 'into' another camera when you should be taking pictures.

When I go abroad my hand luggage consists of 2 DSLR camera bodies an assortment of lenses, loads of memory cards, batteries, charger etc. Oh and a change of pants. and that's me sorted. LOL

3-5 minute film, theme:water, here's the brief, any ideas?

Because my school has funding for visual arts, a local film maker is coming in to school in a fortnight for a week to work with 10 people doing art or photography at a-level to produce a film that is 3-5 minutes long, and with the theme: water. We must compose our own music to go alongside it, and have access to school film cameras, as well as being able to input our own and camera phone mini shots.

In order to get a place, I need to make a 'pledge' to the panel of judges-this can be a paragraph of writing, a brainstorm, or powerpoint presentation to sumarise our ideas and intentions.

I really feel I would benefit from this week of film work, though am a bit unsure as to how to go about this pledge to compete for a place, and, moreover, what to make my film about.

Any ideas for a film, following these guidelines?

x
3-5 minute film, theme:water, here's the brief, any ideas?
This might sound a little off the deep end ;) but your theme could be, "Where has this drop of water been?" I'm sure you know the properties of water... a drop of water sits on the ground, it evaporates into the air, then becomes a rain cloud, it rains, an animal in the amazon drinks that drop, then "excretes" it, that drop evaporates again, becomes a rain cloud, rains over china, etc etc etc You could have alot of fun deciding where your drop of water goes. As far as the pledge, I would put together either a word doc or a powerpoint, first page being the title with maybe a water droplet image, second page being the concept (like what I wrote above - but in your wods), third page being the things you need to execute - i.e. pictures, video clips of places the water droplet visits, sounds it hears, music from those places, etc. That should be sufficient for a proposal/pledge. Good luck.

may be slightly morbid, but the sea is a graveyard for millions of people -

On all the oceans white caps flow

you do not see the crosses row on row

but those who lie beneath the sea

rest in peace, for your countries are free

That poem's about the second world war, but i find it thought provoking. It may be a slightly different angle to look at if there's lots of cometition.

Anyone can be a good photographer?

I would really like to be a fashion photographer

but i dont really have a style

im am 15 should i by now?

Like my pictures i wouldnt take really edgy ones more natural pretty oness likke but i dont really have a set style

Does this mean i cant make it : [?
Anyone can be a good photographer?
Anyone can take photographs. Just look at flickr and many other collections.

You are up against a few million other people. So how do you compare to the thousand youngsters in your school?
Anyone can be a good photographer?
no try and get into art school haha ud die those people are creative.
Reply:You asked, "can anyone be a good photographer with a great camera? Is there a natural skill to it...?"

The answer is no. Without knowing how to use it properly, and without knowing how to work around its limitation, then no.

Look at it this way. The good old days before word processor came out, people used typewriter to "write" (you may not have seen one seriously). The old saying went something like just because I have a typewriter, it doesn't mean I am going to be able to write a book. Same thing as having a great grand piano (a Steinway, for example)--it won't make me a concert pianist.

If you hand me a scalpel, will it make me a surgeon? (I'm a nurse though!)

A Camera is a tool. You're in control of it. If you don't know what you're doing because you don't take lessons in art / photography, etc., then it's a very expensive toy that is used for snapshots only.

I hope this is not going to dash your hope-but a realistic answer is actually needed.
Reply:This does not mean you cannot make it! You are only 15 years old. The best thing to do is look into studying photography after you're GCSE's.

Go to your careers tutor and tell them you are interested in fashion photography and they may be able to help you find a specific course. Or at least one that could help you on your way to becoming a fashion photographer.

Good luck,

:)
Reply:Should you have a style by now?

Nope. You're still young. You still have a lot to learn. You still have time to develop your style. I'm glad you've started thinking about it already though.

Does it mean you won't make it?

Absolutely not. Again, you're still young. You still have a lot to learn. You still have time to develop your style.

Can anyone be a good photographer with a great camera?

Again, the answer is no. You must have the skills to be a good photographer.

Is there natural skill to it?

For some people, the skill does come naturally. For others, you have to work hard for it.

You're good with Photoshop.

That's great. Having Photoshop skills will definately help you artistically enhance your photos. Don't depend on Photoshop to fix all your mistakes though. Get it right in the camera.

You think you have good taste.

Again, great... but the viewers must think you have good taste as well.

The most important thing to do right now is to PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!! Carry your camera everywhere you go, take classes, join clubs, read books, look for good lighting and composition, and find good examples and try to recreate them. Good luck!
Reply:The camera doesn't make a good photographer, neither does a 'good' camera, in fact a 'good' camera without knowing how to use it could be worse than useless to you.

You haven't a style? cause you have, everybody has, but yours is still evolving, so is everybody else's, so is mine and I'm in my 60's. it hasn't been fully explored yet, exciting isn't it?

Everything that happens to you colours the way you see the world, the way you see the world determines what you view as a picture worth taking, other people will walk strait past.

Immerse yourself in the fashion world and eventually you will meet people in that same world, you'll find yourself in places where fashion happens, maybe just at school at first, then in college, then as a job, then as a ....... who knows?

Look at the work of well known masters of photography, heres a good place to start,

http://www.masters-of-photography.com/

ask what they were trying to say? why did they choose that subject? don't dismiss anything just because it's not your style, your style will change as you develop.

More important than all of this is to master the craft of photography, the act of actually taking a photograph under any conditions with whatever camera is to hand without having to think about it. This doesn't happen overnight, or even over months, but over years it does, but it needs a good foundation from which to grow, some basic knowledge and college is a good place to start. Surrounding yourself with other photographers will, apart from learning the 'mechanics' of photography put you in that world, good colleges have contacts all over the place and fashion may be one of them.

Have the thought, hold the thought and you will gravitate towards it, opportunities turn up, people who can help turn up. It won't happen overnight, you won't even know it's happening, but happen it will.

What you think today you become tomorrow, so be careful what you think. (Bagavad Gita)

Chris
Reply:absolutely anyone can be a good photographer, if you're 15 then you've still got lots of chances to learn different techniques and improve your photograph taking - im doing a level photography and its fantastic, you learn so so much.

edgy photos aren't neccessarily the best photos, sometimes the softer photos are more appreciative and natural to the eye, and somewhat more pleasing.

you will eventually find your style of shooting after practising and learning about photography in general. just make sure you have a decent camera; if you're serious about photography i would suggest buying a digital SLR where you focus it manually.

if there is anything else you want to know about learning more about photography/ techniques in general then dont hesitate to ask me :)
Reply:Too late - good photographers are identified by the time they are ten years of age
