  1. "Kado Sano studied painting under Tessai Tomioka, a great master of Sumi-e or Ink paintings, on the other hand, he showed much interest in Haiku, poems and novels. By the Japanese artists, the value of his art of painting has been recognized. Not being satisfied with the artists of no heart in the painting, and forsaking material comforts, he sought after the art of painting by which he would be able to express even the heart of man on the painting. The fact that he did not even publish his paintings for some time represents his spirit and his modesty as an artist. His Bunjinga (the painting of literary man) has cultivated Japanese taste, being based on rigid composition of painting with deep heart and with his skilled brushing. His representative paintings are bamboo and landscape." This is what is on a card that came with a Sumi ink painted silk screen done by Kado Sano in 1977; purchased from the Uchida Art Co. Ltd. (Kyoto Handicraft Center, Kyoto, Japan). Obviously, this was translated from Japanese, but I think the description comes through. There is a faded color picture of him included in the envelope that shows a white haired, older gentleman I'd say looks to be in his 70s, or so. The screen it came with is 3' x 6' and was purchased, in 1977, for $385.56. I hope this helps.
