Why do painters wear white?

I never understood why painters wear white. Since they wear white all the paint shows up on their clothes. It doesn't make any sense.

Painters usually wear overalls and full jumpsuits to keep the paint off one's clothes. After the clothes get painted and plastered they are usually thrown away. They are meant to be more or less "disposable" meaning the companies that make them do not bother to waste money dyeing the clothes different colors if it is only going to serve a short life span.

Yes the paint does show up well on white.


You are not supposed to be painting your clothes.


With white clothes the paint shows up well enough that you might notice it before you manage to get it on stuff you don't want paint on, like your car seat,

2. most other paint will show up on it, so you have a better chance of noticing it before it gets onto the wrong surface, such as the seat of your truck or some other area you didn't mean to paint. On the other hand (opinions differ on this) since most interior paint jobs are done in landlord off-white, you also won't look as messy as if you had started out in black.


3. it inspires confidence in the customers-- you look more professional, and also tidier and like you won't wreck their furniture or trample their garden.


4. it's a neutral colour, so you will be visually subordinate to the aesthetic changes you are bringing about in the client's environment. (this one sounds a bit airy-fairy, but I believe it's true on a subliminal level.)
Reply:paint shows up no matter what colour you wear ,so its a statement that they arent afraid of the paint on their clothes and because it mightnt distract them as much as orange overalls with purple dots or the ones i have which are silver with a big watermelon printed on the back
